Writer, poet, Theo Seuss Geisel - writing under the pen name Dr. Seuss - was born on March 2, 1904.  He died on September 24, 1991.
Excerpt from a poem that he wrote honoring The Reader's Digest Condensed Books:

It has often been said
there's so much to be read,
you never can cram
all those words in your head.

So the writer who breeds
more words than he needs
is making a chore
for the reader who reads.
