"Because of a friend ~ life is a little stronger, a fuller, more gracious thing;  for a friend's existence, whether he be near or far.  If a friend is close at hand, that is best but if he is far away he is still there to think of, to wonder about, to hear from, to write to, to share life and experience with, to serve, to honour, to admire, to love."

~ Arthur C. Benson (1862 - 1925) English essayist, poet, author.

It's all I have to bring today,
This, and my heart beside,
This, and my heart, and all the fields,
And all the meadows wide.
Be sure you count, should I forget, ~
Some one the sum could tell, ~
This, and my heart, and all the bees
Which in the clover dwell.

~ Emily Dickinson

Arise, my darling,

See!  The winter is past; the rains are over and gone.
Flowers appear on the earth;
the season of singing has come...."

"Do you know what it is to be a child?  It is to be something very different from the man of today.  It is to have a spirit yet streaming from the waters of life;   it is to believe in loveliness, to believe in belief;  it is to be so little that the elves can reach to whisper in your ear; it is to turn pumpkins into coaches and mice into horses, lowness into loftiness and nothing into everything...for each child has a fairy godmother in its soul."

~ Francis Thompson (1859 - 1907) English poet, writer.

The Dear Little Shamrock

There's a dear little plant that grows in our Isle,
'Twas St. Patrick himself sure that set it:
And the sun on his labour with pleasure did smile,
And with dew from his eye often wet it.
It shines thro' the bog, thro' the brake, thro' the mireland,
And he called it the dear little shamrock of Ireland.

(Chorus:)
The dear little shamrock, the sweet little shamrock,
The dear little, sweet little shamrock of Ireland.

The dear little plant still grows in our Isle,
Fresh and fair as the daughters of Erin,
Whose eyes can bewitch and whose eyes can beguile,
In each climate they ever appear in.
For they shine thro' the bog, thro' the brake, and the mireland,
Just like their own dear little shamrock of Ireland.

(Chorus:)

The dear little plant that springs from our soil,
When its three little leaves are extended,
Denotes from its stalk we together should toil,
And ourselves by ourselves be befriended.
And still thro' the bog, thro' the brake, and the mireland,
From one root should branch like the shamrock of Ireland.

(Chorus:)
