Haldimand Oak |
A group of folks who "care about their little piece of Haldimand County" are participating today in an Arbor Day event in Burlington. Members of the Haldimand Stewardship Council will hand out native tree seeds to public school children.
The city of Burlington has been participating in Arbor Day events for over 35 years. The city has an Urban Forest Management Plan for 2011 - 2030 ~ currently an average canopy cover of 23%. Burlington's 53,000 street trees provide an estimated $3.5 million annually in environmental benefits alone.
The Haldimand Stewardship Council is providing seeds from St. Williams Forestry Station in Norfolk. Species include Shagbark Hickory, Bitternut, Red Oak and Bur Oak.
