Writer, poet, Theo Seuss Geisel - writing under the pen name Dr. Seuss - was born on March 2, 1904. He died on September 24, 1991.
Excerpt from a poem that he wrote honoring The Reader's Digest Condensed Books:
It has often been said
there's so much to be read,
you never can cram
all those words in your head.
So the writer who breeds
more words than he needs
is making a chore
for the reader who reads.
~ Seuss-isms, Wise and Witty Prescriptions for Living from the Good Doctor, Dr. Seuss Enterprises. Random House, 1997.

Freedom To Read ~
Imagine a country where reading and expressing one's views are denied. Today is the last day of a week set aside to remind us that when rights are taken away, they are difficult to get back. Please go to http://www.freedomtoread.ca/
Read about the position of the Supreme Court of Canada and let us never take for granted our "Freedom to Read."

Fascinating Personalities & Readings ~
On the first and third Thursdays of each month, we reserve the Round Table for coffee and informal readings, 1:00 - 3:00 p.m.
When we haven't scheduled any particular author, poet or orator, without exception other fascinating personalities pour a cupa and no day goes by without conversation. "The love of learning, the sequestered nooks, And all the sweet serenity of books."
~ Henry Wadsworth Longfellow (1807 - 1882)

"Most people live, whether physically, intellectually or morally, in a very restricted circle of their potential being. They make use of a very small portion of their possible consciousness, and of their soul's resources in general, much like a man who out of his whole bodily organism, should get into a habit of using and moving only his little finger. Great emergencies and crises show us how much greater our vital resources are than we are supposed."
~ William James (1842 - 1910), American psychologist, philosopher.
"Minds are like parachutes. They only function when they are open."
